“A respectable appearance is sufficient to make people more interested in your soul.”
~Karl Lagerfeld
“Dandies [like Lagerfeld] have to put up with all sorts of irritation and insults. Often criticized and sometimes jeered at, they are in a perpetual state of conflict with themselves—torn between what they are and what they would like to be, trying to achieve harmony with their ideal.”
~Jean-Claude Houdret (Lagerfeld’s dietician)
“It has to be a sort of punishment…”
~Karl Lagerfeld
“Going on a diet because of clothes is a completely different thing,” he says. “It’s a superficial reason; there’s no obligation, nothing in your life depends upon it, apart from your wardrobe. … You have to treat it as an unimportant challenge and that’s why you succeed.”
~Karl Lagerfeld
(quotes pulled from The Karl Lagerfeld Diet, commenting on dieting and appearance after Lagerfeld’s phenomenal 90 lb drop.)
I was swimming around in the tumblr sea and I came across this lovely blog, on which some one had commented anonymously (here), questioning the validity of being thin or caring deeply about being thin. I think the first quote sums up the rebuttal fairly nicely.

We love you Lagerfeld. <3
