FOR THE EFFORT: TALL SHOES AND BLACK JEANS

“A respectable appearance is sufficient to make people more interested in your soul.”

~Karl Lagerfeld

“Dandies [like Lagerfeld] have to put up with all sorts of irritation and insults.  Often criticized and sometimes jeered at, they are in a perpetual state of conflict with themselves—torn between what they are and what they would like to be, trying to achieve harmony with their ideal.”

~Jean-Claude Houdret (Lagerfeld’s dietician)

“It has to be a sort of punishment…”

~Karl Lagerfeld

“Going on a diet because of clothes is a completely different thing,” he says. “It’s a superficial reason; there’s no obligation, nothing in your life depends upon it, apart from your wardrobe. … You have to treat it as an unimportant challenge and that’s why you succeed.”

~Karl Lagerfeld

(quotes pulled from The Karl Lagerfeld Diet, commenting on dieting and appearance after Lagerfeld’s phenomenal 90 lb drop.)

I was swimming around in the tumblr sea and I came across this lovely blog, on which some one had commented anonymously (here), questioning the validity of being thin or caring deeply about being thin.  I think the first quote sums up the rebuttal fairly nicely.

We love you Lagerfeld. <3

Hello, Everyone!

I’ve started this blog in the hopes of meeting new people and having good conversations about the content I post here as well as the content throughout the magical world of tumblr.

I suppose this will be a fashion blog, and one could even consider it a weight loss type of blog.  I hope the focus doesn’t drift too much toward traditional “thinspo”, as I’m not trying to post pictures of half naked girls with beautiful bodies (although they’re nice to look at).  I’d rather like this blog to serve as motivation and inspiration beyond weight loss, a reminder of why I’d like to become the person I want to become, not just the weight I’d like to be.

Embodied in that 110 lbs is not only appearance but the ease of movement, the grace that comes with the cigarette silhouette; the self confidence and sense of accomplishment that you, as a person, are finally comfortable.  In beauty there is comfort - I don’t mean physical comfort, but emotional and mental soundness.

So come with me! Lets do it together.

Thought it would be fitting to open this blog with an image of the woman who inspired me to fashion and who helped me to recognize the beauty in the cigarette silhouette.  The best part is, she has no clue.  Who knows who you may inspire as you aspire to great things.
